Homebodii Bride of the Month: Fifi Maxwell
A little bit about me…
I’m originally from England and now call Australia home. I’m happiest when I’m surrounded by the people I love most, whether that’s long lunches with friends, family dinners that turn into late nights, or weekends spent by the ocean. I’ve always loved creating beautiful moments, whether it’s through hosting, travelling, or finding the perfect little details that make something feel special. I’m naturally quite detail-oriented, but I also believe the best memories are usually the unplanned ones. That mindset shaped so much of our wedding. We wanted to share the place we call home with the people we love most, and Byron Bay felt like the perfect setting. It’s such a special place - relaxed, beautiful, and full of the kind of energy we wanted our wedding weekend to have. More than anything, we wanted our guests to experience why we love it so much and to create a celebration that felt warm, timeless, and truly reflective of us.
Our approach to planning…
Was detail-oriented, but never too serious. We wanted the whole process to feel fun from start to finish. Friday nights became a ritual of pizza and wine while we chose vendors, and we made playlists with friends that helped set the tone for different parts of the day. My mum in England was on speed dial throughout. Her advice kept us grounded, and we genuinely couldn’t have done it without her.
Looking back on the day we are so glad that we…
Let things unfold the way they did. Originally, we were supposed to be getting ready in separate wedding accommodation, but we realised a few months out that the accommodation hadn’t been booked. This felt mildly catastrophic at the time, but in the end, it turned out to be the best thing that could have happened. We found a beautiful villa in the Byron Bay hinterland, invited our families to stay, and got ready there together. It set a much more relaxed tone for the whole weekend and ended up being one of the most fun and meaningful parts, something we’ll always treasure.
The most unexpected part of the day was…
Definitely the weather. We got married in spring and had imagined soft sunshine and mild temperatures perfect for our black tie dress code and my long-sleeved gown. Instead, we were met with 29-degree heat. We had spent so much time hoping for no rain that we ended up with the complete opposite!
When I look back on the day now I feel…
Incredibly blessed. There was something so unforgettable about having everyone we love in one place, celebrating together.
A word of advice to new brides would be...
Slow down and soak it all in. Thirty minutes of real time feels like five, and the entire day passes in such a beautiful blur that it almost feels like a dream. The little moments, walking down the aisle, a quiet moment with your new husband, looking around the room at everyone you love, go by so quickly. Be present, let go of perfection, and truly enjoy every second because it will be over before you know it.
My Homebodii moment was special because I wore…
Getting ready with my bridal party, music playing, champagne flowing, and that feeling of excitement building made it such a memorable part of the wedding. I wore the Sian Slip and Helena Lace Robe because they are timeless, elegant, and comfortable, which made me feel beautiful and completely like myself.
